The reading log is due on Tuesday! Students are expected to read 4 days per week for 20 minutes. Students should have also brought home their Friday Journal - please take a peek and write back if you have time!

Please email the office if you have any issues logging onto PowerSchool to see your child's grades. Updated access codes are being sent home with your child today if you did not receive them on Wednesday.

See below for a few photos from last week! We read the book, How I Spent My Summer Vacation, where the main character greatly exaggerates what he did over summer vacation. Students had to write either a fiction or nonfiction piece about their summer vacation, and some students volunteered to share them with the class! Then, we voted whether their writing was fiction or nonfiction. Students were very creative, as I suspected!
Happy Wednesday!

The last day of the month is tomorrow, which means it is a spirit wear day! Students may come to school in SJS spirit wear.

Homework
  • Math & spelling packets are due Friday
  • Spelling Unit 2 test is Friday (for students that did not earn 100% on the pretest)
  • Reading log is due Monday - Students should read 4 days per week for at least 20 minutes.
Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

There are A LOT of papers going home with your child. Here is a quick breakdown:
  • AR Information Letter (see below)
  • Math introduction to Chapter 1 Parent Letter - we started Ch. 1 today! This letter is just an overview of the chapter and ways you can help your child to learn the material.
  • *Reading Log - students should read for 20 minutes at least 4 nights/week. Reading logs are due next Monday.
  • *Spelling Homework Packet - due Friday
  • *Math Homework Packet - due Friday

*Students will be assigned both a math and spelling homework packet each week. They will be handed out on Monday and due on Friday. Reading logs are handed out on Monday and due the following Monday since I like to give students the option to read over the weekend if they so choose.

Students will take the i-Ready diagnostic test later this week or early next week (I will keep you updated). Once students complete the diagnostic, they will practice i-Ready at school and at home.

I know this is a lot of information! Students will be writing in their assignment notebooks every night to ensure that they know what is expected of them. Thank you for ALL your help this upcoming year!

Happy Friday! We made it through our first week, and had a lot of fun along the way. I hope you all have a great weekend!
Happy Thursday! This week is flying by!

Reminders:
  • Students will have their first spelling test tomorrow! Please have your child study the Unit 1 words (also listed in the "Weekly Spelling Words" tab on the blog). Unit 1 will be a practice unit for the students and it is NOT graded.
    •  If your child earned 100% on the pretest, they will NOT have to take the test tomorrow.
  • Please send an art smock (old t-shirt) and headphones for your child to keep in their desk.
  • I am sending home an information sheet about Friday Journals! Every Friday, your child will write YOU a letter about what they learned or how they felt about school that week. Students will bring the journals home on Friday and back to school on Monday. I would highly encourage you to read their letter and respond back (even if it's just a short little note!). Thank you in advance for your participation!

  • We started our first spelling unit this week! Students took a pre-test yesterday, and will take a post-test on Friday. If your child did NOT earn 100% on the pre-test, they will need to take the post-test on Friday. Please study the Unit 1 words (also listed in the "Weekly Spelling Words" tab on the blog). Unit 1 will be a practice unit for the students and it is NOT graded.
    • Starting next week, students will take the pre-test on Monday and post-test on Friday. The pre-test is NOT graded, but the post-test will be graded. If your child earns 100% on the pre-test, they will NOT have to take the post-test (but they still have to complete the spelling homework).
