Homework

As promised, this week I will be working on getting every student onto my Google Classroom, but due to our Christmas Concert practice and iReady times where other classes will be using the chromebooks, I will need a few days to get all 4th and 5th ready and onto my Google Classroom.

As a result, there won't be any homework packet this week. However, any workbook pages that do not get finished in class will be expected to be completed for homework.
NO HOMEWORK THIS WEEK!

I will implement homework through Google Classroom once we return from Thanksgiving Break so all of us will not have to worry about paper copies as much! Hopefully this will help in students not remembering to take their docket or folders home with their homework and can just submit through Google Classroom instead.

I really hope this will help make it easier on all of you :)
The homework for all students from me this week is to:
  • work on any unfinished assignment from any and all classes that they can still turn in!
  • whatever workbook pages/class activity they do not finish in class.

I know this is the last week before the first trimester officially ends, so whatever work they can still turn in to the respective classroom's teacher please have them do so. I want every student to be able to finish this trimester strong before receiving their report cards after break!
The homework packet for 4th grade students consist of:

  • A choice board to help practice the grammar concepts they have already learned OR read
  • Conjunctions worksheet
  • Homophones Your vs. You're worksheet

The homework packet for 5th grade students consist of:

  • A choice board to help practice their vocab words OR read
  • Vocabulary Workshop Unit 3 Crossword Puzzle
  • Homographs worksheet
Students needed more time finishing up their Halloween Mystery Packet from Friday, so instead of adding on a homework packet on top of their classwork, they are just working on the classwork as their homework for this week.

So there is no HW Choice Board this week. Students will just complete the three Halloween worksheets and turn it in by Friday.
This week's homework packet will just be the unfinished Halloween ELA Packet each student received from me on Friday, Oct. 21st.

Students who have it, but did not finish can turn it in by Friday, Oct. 28th.

Students who completed the packet on Friday when they received it have no homework this week! :)

  • Vocabulary Workshop Unit 2 Crossword Puzzle

The homework packet for 5th grade students consist of:

The homework packet for 4th grade students consist of:

The homework packet for 5th grade students consist of:

  • Add A Subject/Predicate worksheet
No more parent initials for the reading log! :)
By now students are pretty much in the habit of continuing to increase their reading skills outside of school so they will only need to write down what they read and how long they read for.

The homework packet for 4th grade students consists of:

  • A reading log (students asked if they could sign it rather than me removing the column entirely, so the initials column will still be there if they would like to do that - but parents are not required to sign the HW packet anymore)
  • Grammar Workshop - Types of Sentences worksheet
  • Grammar Workshop - Simple Subjects and Predicates worksheet

The homework packet for 5th grade students consists of:

  • A choice board to help practice their vocab words OR read
  • Vocab Workshop - Unit 2 Practice Quiz worksheet
  • Vocab Workshop - Unit 2 Crossword Puzzle

The homework packet for this week consists of:
  • NOTHING! :)

There will be no homework packets this week because 4th grade should be focusing on making test corrections and turning it back in so I can update their scores.

And as a result, 5th grade will also receive a break this week :)

*Students will only be required to finish a classroom assignment at home this week if they can not complete it in the time that is given in class.
There was some confusion regarding the homework packets where some thought the reading log was for Reading class (which is understandable). So my weekly homework packets will begin looking a little different starting this week.

The homework packet for 4th grade students consists of:

  • A reading log (students need to be reading every day for at least 10-15 min or more AND parents/guardians need to sign off for each day)
  • Fixing Capitalization worksheet
  • Subject vs. Predicate worksheet

The homework packet for 5th grade students consists of:

  • A reading log (students need to be reading every day for at least 10-15 min or more AND parents/guardians need to sign off for each day)
  • Capitalizing Titles worksheet
  • Simple vs Complete Subject and Predicates worksheet

*Since there will be no school for students Friday, Sept. 23rd, homework will be due on Thursday.
The homework packet for 4th and 5th grade students consists of:

  • A reading log (students need to be reading every day for at least 10-15 min or more AND parents/guardians need to sign off for each day)
  • Context Clues and Synonyms activity
  • Synonyms and Antonyms worksheet

This week both 4th and 5th will be learning the same concepts so their homework packet will look the same.
The homework packet for 4th grade students consists of:

  • A reading log (students need to be reading every day for at least 10-15 min or more AND parents/guardians need to sign off for each day)
  • 4 Types of Sentences worksheet
  • Homophones worksheet

The homework packet for 5th grade students consists of:

  • A reading log (students need to be reading every day for at least 10-15 min or more AND parents/guardians need to sign off for each day)
  • 4 Types of Sentences worksheet
  • Similes worksheet
The homework packet consists of:

  • A reading log (students need to be reading every day for at least 10-15 min or more AND parents/guardians need to sign off for each day)

  • Two worksheets labeled "One Consonant or Two"
I focus on weekly homework packets with a reading log as the first page. The reading log will be signed off by a parent/guardian every day. I am not focusing on how much each student reads, but rather looking for each student to read every day. Aim for at least 10-15 minutes per day. If there is a younger sibling at home, please encourage your fourth/fifth grader to read to their younger sibling. I promise it'll be a win-win :)

My packets will go out Mondays, and they will be due Fridays. Homework is not meant to be a burden, rather it is to help solidify what is being taught in class. As parents you are more than welcome to help with any and all homework, however if you see that your child is struggling with the content outside of the classroom, that is something I need to know in order to help them to bridge that gap.

I have told every class that if they have questions about the homework they are more than welcome to bring it in and ask me.

For long breaks I usually do not give homework so students can enjoy that time with their family and friends :)
