Mrs. Christine Boldt » Welcome

Welcome

Greetings! My name is Chris Boldt, and I teach Jr. High English. Please subscribe to my blog by clicking my name on the St. Juliana School website , where you can check for the latest homework assignments, quiz/test dates, and homeroom news. You can also contact me via email - [email protected]

I LOVE teaching English! My teaching philosophy is that learning is not a “one and done.”  It is a life-long journey, and school is the place to try and try again!  I strive to be a “confidence builder” for all of my students by supporting them in becoming the best version of themselves academically and beyond.

The students can count on me to do EVERYTHING I can to help them be successful in their writing and grammar skills by presenting an engaging, fun, and rigorous curriculum. I make myself available for assistance by:
- Class Time: encouraging students to ask questions & providing them clarification (smart kids ask questions…)
- Review Forums at 7:35 AM: Tuesdays (7th Grade), Wednesdays (8th Grade), Thursdays (6th Grade)
- Individual Help: students can sign up for assistance on the “English 911 Helpline” clipboard

CURRICULUM:
*G
rammar Skills and Usage: Study of grammar concepts in the Grammar for Writing textbook, engaging review games and writing-based practice, weekly spiraled Daily Language Review (DLR) and Friday quizzes
*Writing Experiences: Descriptive, Informative/Expository, Fictional Narrative, Reflective Narrative, Persuasive. Our writing motto is “WRITE & REVISE”: ALL students are encouraged to revise writing assignments for extra points, regardless of the initial grade..
*Grading: homework, quizzes, tests, and projects will be graded on a point system
*Extra Credit: writing center activities, monthly word puzzles, and printing out of additional writing activities to place in writing portfolio.

- Independent Writing Activities:writing center and daily writing assignments, compiled in a Writing Portfolio.
- Students are responsible to print at home all writing assignments done on the computer or make arrangements with a classmate
- Our motto is “WRITE & REVISE”: ALL are encouraged to revise writing assignments for extra points, regardless of the initial grade

SJS Band Opportunities

Dear St Julliana Families

I am excited to introduce a new, unique general/instrumental music Band program this year at St. Julian! Our fourth through eighth grade students can continue to sing, move, dance, and perform, while also beginning their journey on band instruments. Students will explore foundational skills on wind or percussion instruments, preparing them for full ensemble playing.

Interested students will have the opportunity to take the next step by performing in a Concert Band ensemble, choosing from instruments such as flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, or percussion. There will be a $40 payment due at the start of every month starting October that can be charged to your FACT account. The students will have a total of 25 lessons this year. Lessons will take place every Friday during school, so I will be taking students out of a class for a 30 minute lesson. On days where there is no school or a half day, there will be no lessons. The Sign Up and Instrument Rental Websites are at the bottom of this email!

This comprehensive program draws from established Orff, Gordon Music Learning Theory, and Kodály music education philosophies. It is a full-fledged accredited instrumental music curriculum that uses band instruments as a vehicle to deliver core musical skills. Research has shown that learning to play wind and percussion instruments enhances academic achievement, coordination, and critical thinking—I am thrilled to see St. Juliana students with instruments in hand!

We will be working with Quinlan & Fabish to provide each student with a well-suited instrument for use in class, which can be rented out through the link at the bottom of this email. During Band lessons, our focus is on cultivating a love of music while developing independence, creativity, and teamwork. Students will gain technical skills on their chosen instrument, learn a wide range of repertoire, and receive differentiated instruction so that every child can succeed. Singing, rhythm reading, movement, and composition will continue to play an essential role in building well-rounded musical thinkers. The learning that takes place in the Band lessons will directly impact the creative problem-solving and collaboration skills you see in the classroom.

We have two concerts scheduled for this year—One already scheduled for December 16th—and we can’t wait to share our music with you on stage. Please feel free to reach out at any time if you have questions about this exciting new program. Your support and enthusiasm are essential to helping me launch this new chapter at St. Julliana, and I am looking forward to a wonderful year in Band!

Field Day Info

Dear St. Juliana Families,

We are excited to finish up our first school year with our TEAMs initiative. We have seen all of our students get to know new friends across all grade levels who smile and wave in the hallways. Our activities throughout the year have included scavenger hunts, escape rooms, trivia, puzzles, the charity challenge and more. We look forward to continuing our TEAMs next year as well.

On Friday, May 30, all classes kindergarten through seventh grades will participate with their TEAM in a Field Day at Brooks Park. The Field Day events will include fun activities for all ages. Your child will get wet and sweaty! Therefore, please send your child to school appropriately dressed for the weather that day which includes the TEAM t-shirt (no skirts or dresses), gym shoes only (no sandals, crocs, slides) and maybe a sweatshirt. Apply sunscreen at home. Water bottles should be labeled with your child’s name. At 12:00, everyone will return to the school for lunch. In case of inclement weather, this event will be cancelled.

Thank you so much for your support of this initiative to make SJS stronger together.

Exciting SJS SOCCER News!

St. Juliana is excited to announce the addition of soccer to its athletic programs.  We will be playing in the North Shore Catholic Soccer league.  We will have a Junior Varsity team consisting of 5th and 6th grade co-ed members and a Varsity team consisting of 7th and 8th grade co-ed members.  Practice will begin in mid August with games starting the week before Labor Day.  Season will conclude in mid October.  Practices will be once or twice a week depending on the game schedule and we will play one or two games a week throughout the season.  Resurrection High School has been gracious enough to let us rent some field space for our home games with practices taking place mainly at Brooks Park.  Practice times will be determined by our coach, Angela Staveskie.  Parents will need to purchase their child's cleats, shin guards and socks.  Uniforms will be included in the price of registration of $100. Registration will open Wednesday May 14th.  Any questions, please email St. Juliana Athletic Director, Pat Aylward at [email protected].
