Math fluency tests went home today. Please sign and return.

Religion - The book will be going home tomorrow to start studying for the Chapter 2 test that will be on Wednesday, the 28th. Please bring your book back on Wednesday. Study the highlighted parts, Faith Words, Chapter Review, and take the pretest at www.blestarewe.com.  You will be asked to write one way you can bring the light of Christ to others. 

The Chapter 1 Religion Tests went home already, please sign and return.

*The STAR test (reading comprehension) will be coming home tomorrow. Please remember that this is one diagnostic tool that is assessed every trimester. You may keep these. They are also helpful to use as a reference to help your child pick out a book to read at his/her reading level.  Please make sure your child is reading at home and choosing a book that is at their suggested reading level based on the STAR Reading Test.  Also, encourage your child to take their time reading, and reread the book if necessary.

*Don't forget to save pop-tops from the cans.  Every gallon sized bag we turn in will get our classroom an out of uniform day.

*Communion is at 11am for both school and CCD on April 29th.

Junior Trojans Basketball registration is now open.  1st and 2nd grades will be on Mondays and 3rd and 4th grades will be on Thursday from 3pm to 4pm in the gym.  We will start the week of Oct. 3rd and it will run for six weeks.    We are also looking for parents volunteers to help out please.  You can register using the link below on SportsEngine.

           Junior Trojans Basketball registration system is temporarily down right now.  The system forgot to collect the $35 fee.  Those who registered already may have to re-register.  We are waiting for the SportsEngine rep to get back to us to fix the registration.  As soon as we get this fixed we will let you know.  We will still start on the planned dates:  

Beginning of Oct. 3rd

• 1st and 2nd grades Mondays and 
• 3rd and 4th grades on Thursday

Reading - Reread Backpack Page 11 aloud several times. Continue to study for Thursday’s test. There is no school for students on Friday.

Math - Pages 9+10. A sheet with Math vocabulary words is going home today. Please review those words. We will be having a quiz on Wednesday covering lessons 1-5.

Also coming home are the first set of flashcards. These will be going home weekly for the next several weeks.  Please cut these carefully and practice daily Monday-Friday. Place in a Ziploc bag and keep the flashcards at home. Have your child practice reciting the fact family on the back. Read the family sheet coming home discussing flashcards. The Parent Signature Sheet should be kept in the green folder. Please sign/date the sheet daily. The practice and memorization of these facts will be helpful when timed-tests start in the winter.

Religion - We are discussing the Sacrament of Baptism. It would be nice to have a conversation with your child about their Baptism (the ceremony, Godparents, celebration, etc…)

Since Back to School night is tomorrow and there won’t be any homework, we are having it on Thursday. Please return books on Thursday. Tests are multiple choice, matching, fill in the blank, and short answer. To study for tests, study the highlighted parts, review the Faith Words boxes, review the Chapter Review at the end of every chapter, and take the pretest on www.Blestarewe.com. Click on Students, take a quiz, Grade 2, and Chapter 1.  Chapter 1’s short answer will be to write one way you can show you are a child of God. 

*Back to school night is tomorrow from 6-7pm. A packet with 2nd grade information is coming home today. Review the packet, come see the classroom, and if you have any questions, please ask. If you are unable to come, please email me if you have any questions. Coming home today is information on Renaissance Home Connect Accelerated Reading (A.R.) and your child’s iReady username and password.  Please look over the process of taking Accelerated Reading (A.R.) tests. A.R. will start on Wednesday if your child is ready.

Someone is missing 2 blue St. Julian sweaters. They are both blue. One has the white logo and it has the person's initials in it the other has the older SJS logo I believe the logo is red. Please look over your child's uniform sweaters and make sure they have the correct ones. It is easy to make a mistake and grab the wrong one since they all look alike.

Ask your child if their book cover is too big or too small. A few children need a different size for their SuperKids Reader.

Spelling - Complete the Backpack Page coming home and keep at home. Super e words are words that have a silent e at the end which makes the other vowel long. Continue to study for Friday’s test.

Math - Please complete and return the double sided Additional Practice page 1-1 coming home. A 100’s chart is coming home to keep and use when needed.
