Welcome to Room 31!  Second grade is such an exciting grade to teach.  The chidren are anxious to make their First Holy Communion and they are becoming much more independent.  I look forward to a new year with new friends and can't wait to get back into a classroom routine.

Tuesday's Homework and Reminders (1-23-24)

Reading - Reread Backpack Page 2 aloud a few times.

Math - Flashcards and study the review pages coming home for the test on Thursday. Today's Red Papers are very similar to the test.

*Book Fair...  Come join us to shop on Sunday, 1/28/24 during our Open House from 10:30am to 12:00pm.  Preview day is Monday, 1/29 (8am – 3:30pm) and wish lists will come home.  Students will shop as a class Tuesday 1/30 and/or Wednesday 1/31 (8am – 3:30pm).  Feel free to stop by at pickup to shop with your child any of the days.  Payment can be set up through eWallet (see link below), cash, credit card, Apple Pay or check made out to St. Juliana.  DON’T FORGET TO ADD 10.5% TAX.  Please consider rounding up for “All for Books” which benefits the SJS classrooms as well.  The book fair will be located in the School Hall.  Encourage your children to buy at least one book before trinkets.  The volunteers will also try their best to assist!

Proceeds will go to purchase items from an Amazon wish list for the Army MWR(morale, welfare, recreation)to support the troops stationed in Zagan, Poland.They will be sent to the MWR in care of Captain Ben Kusinski, the son of our Vice Principal, Mrs. Kusinski. We will also make cards for the base as well.  

*We will attend an anti-bullying assembly.

*Dismissal at 2:00.

Monday's Homework and Reminders (1-22-24)

Spelling - Backpack Page 1. We started the 2nd half of the Superkids program.

Math - Flashcards and review the page coming home today for the Topic 5 assessment on Thursday. Review sheets will also be coming home tomorrow and Wednesday.

iReady - We will be completing the Math diagnostic tomorrow. Please get a good night’s sleep and eat a great breakfast. Please do not complete any iReady at home this week.

*Please return the Wonka permission slip/money by Friday.

*The Communion Banner is coming home today with directions in a ziploc bag, due by 3/13.

Thursday and Friday will be out of uniform days due to the extreme cold temperatures. Dress warm. 

Tuesday's Homework and Reminders (1-16-24)

Spelling/Reading - There will not be a Spelling test on Friday. Please reread Backpack Page 66 aloud a few times.

Math - Flashcards and pages 75+76. There will not be a timed-test this week. The next one (subtraction) will be next week.

Religion - The Chapter 7 test is tomorrow.  You will be asked to WRITE OUT the definitions of Mortal Sin and Venial Sin. You will also be asked to choose one of the Ten Commandments and write one way you can obey it. Review the Faith Words, highlighted parts, Chapter Review, and take the pretest at Blestarewe.com.

*Tomorrow - Out of uniform and the Reconciliation/Communion meeting is at 6:30 in the Church.

*Room 31 will be completing the iReady Diagnostics tomorrow, January 17th and on Monday, January 22nd.  Eat a great breakfast to fuel up for the day. Please do not complete any iReady at home this week or next week. Thanks!

Spelling - Backpack Page 64 and study for tomorrow’s test. 

Math - Flashcards and pages 73+74. The addition timed-test is coming home today. When timed-tests come home:

*If you received an 85% or higher, keep the test.

*If you received an 84% or lower, please complete the unfinished problems, sign the test, and return the test. 

*This will be the routine when the addition or subtraction tests come home. The goal is to receive one percentage point higher than the last test.

Spelling - Study for the test with the words on Backpack Page 64 that will be on Tuesday, the 16th. Complete workbook pages 108 and 109.

Religion - Start studying for the Chapter 7 test that will be on Wednesday, Jan. 17th. Details are on today’s blog (above).

*Over the next couple of weeks, we will be working on writing a Book Review. Please bring in a book that you know very well by Thursday. The book will stay in school until the review is completed. Thank you!

*The Act of Contrition prayer is coming home on purple paper to start practicing for Reconciliation on February 5th. We will say this prayer as a whole group. Also coming home is a half sheet of paper stating how to begin the confession with the priest, “Bless me Father for I have sinned…”.   Keep both of these in a handy spot to review often.

Monday's Homework and Reminders (1-8-24)

Happy New Year!! I hope you all had a fabulous break!

Spelling - Backpack Page 61

Math - Flashcards and we completed a review page. Timed-Tests will be starting this week. Tests (either addition or subtraction) are 100 problems to complete as many as you can in 5 minutes. The goal is to increase each test score by at least 1 point.

Religion - We will be starting our Reconciliation book. We will work on this in addition to our other book.

Next Wednesday, January 17 at 6:30pm in the church, there is a parent meeting for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. This meeting will cover all of the information and details about these sacraments and you will receive the materials for the activities that need to be completed. Children need not to attend.

The date for the First Holy Communion Acceptance Mass has changed.

It is now Sunday, March 10 at 9:30am in the church. (not March 17)

*The students cleaned out their desks and went through their supplies. If they were running low on something, they filled out a half sheet of paper that lists any items that needs to be replenished over break. Thank you!
