Welcome to Mrs. Doherty's 2nd Grade, Room 32!

Hello!  Welcome to 2nd grade!  My name is Liz Doherty and I am looking forward to working with your child this year.  We have an exciting year planned and we are already off and running!  I can be reached best through my email at, ldoherty@stjuliana.org.  I check emails during school hours when possible.  You can also write a note in your child’s folder.  We're going to have a great year together!

Tuesday's Homework

Reading - Reread page 7 aloud several times.


Math - Flashcards and pages 71+72.  Timed-test are coming home.  Please correct and return is score is 84% or below.  This will be the rule going forward.  


Religion - Chapter 8 test is tomorrow. You will be asked to write two ways you can show you are sorry for sin.


*Tomorrow - Out of uniform, Hat Day, Pro Kids assembly (No Mass today), Bingo, and no homework day!

Thurs - Wear red/white/blue for $1 and we will be going to the movies!

Fri - 2nd Grade wears green and Mothers’ Club is providing a treat in the afternoon.

Math - Flashcards and pages 69+70.


Religion - The Chapter 8 test is on Wednesday. Take the pretest at, blestarewe.com. You will be asked to write two ways you can show you are sorry for sin.


*A thank you letter from your child is coming home. Thank you for sending your child/ren to Saint Juliana School!!


*Optional Conferences are Thursday, Feb. 16th from 12:00-3:00. Grades will be going home this Friday. You will receive an email from Sign Up Genius after school on Monday, 2/6. If you receive an email from me or if you have any concerns, please sign up.

Math - Flashcards and pages 67+68. 


Religion - The book will be coming home tomorrow to start studying for the Chapter 8 test that will be on Wednesday, Feb. 1st. You will be asked to write two ways you can show you are sorry for sin.


*Tomorrow is Mothers’ Club Hot Lunch (McDonalds) and we are going to preview the book fair.


*If you are able to come to Open House, wear your uniform and come see me for an Out of Uniform pass!

*Scholastic book fair wish lists are coming home tomorrow.  We will shop as a class next week Tuesday 1/31/23.  You can also shop as a family Sunday, 1/29/23 after mass or feel free to stop by at pickup.  Books can be purchased via eWallet, cash, Apply Pay or check made out to St. Juliana.  Don’t forget to include 10% TAX!  Encourage your children to buy at least one book before trinkets.  The volunteers will also try their best to assist!

*There is no homework today. We will complete the Math lesson in school. I’ll see you tonight at the 6:30 meeting in Church.

Monday's Homework

Spelling - Backpack Page 1 (We are starting the 2nd half of the Superkids program).


Math - Flashcards. We are starting Topic 5 (Subtract within 100 Using Strategies). A School-Home Connection letter is coming home today. 


*We will be starting Cursive this week.


*The first timed-tests are coming home today. If you received an 84% or below, please correct/finish up the problems, sign, and return tomorrow. This will be the routine when these tests come home. The range of these tests vary. The goal is to receive one percentage point higher than the previous test. You can keep the tests when you receive above 84%. We will alternate weekly between addition and subtraction tests. 


*The Act of Contrition prayer is coming home along with what to say to the priest for Reconciliation (Bless me Father for I have sinned…) Please practice both of these for 2/13. Keep these handy at home!


*Please return the movie permission slip/money by Thursday.


*Friday - Mothers’ Club Hot Lunch and we will be previewing the Book Fair.

Just a reminder that this Wednesday, January 25 at 6:30pm in the St. Juliana Church, there is a Reconciliation and First Communion Parent meeting. Parents will receive a form and information about both sacraments and the materials for two at-home projects. Please attend! We'll see you there.

Spelling - Backpack Page 68 and study for tomorrow’s test.


Math - Flashcards and study the review pages coming home today for the test tomorrow. The pages are really similar to the test tomorrow.


*We are completing the iReady Reading tomorrow.


*Scholastic book orders are due by tomorrow morning if you’d like to order.


*Tomorrow - Out of uniform ~  $1 or more.




*Book fair fliers are coming home today.  Preview day is Friday 1/27 (8am – 3:30pm) and wish lists will come home.  Shop the fair as a family on Sunday 1/29 (10am – 1pm) after mass for Open House/Catholic Schools Week.  Students will shop as a class Monday 1/30 and Tuesday 1/31 (8am – 3:30pm).  Feel free to stop by at pickup to shop with your child.  Payment can be set up through eWallet (see link below), cash, Apple Pay or check made out to St. Juliana.  The book fair will be located on the first floor in room 12 by first grade.

*Catholic Schools Week is the week of January 29th-February 3rd. The official schedule will be coming out but here is a preview:


Sunday, 1/29 - 9:30 Mass. If your child would like to read one petition and you are going to the Mass, please email your child’s teacher and we will randomly choose one child from the grade. Open House is from 10:30-12:30. Please come in uniform and receive an out of uniform pass from me in the classroom.


Monday, 1/30 - Pajama Day


Tuesday, 1/31 - Spirit wear 


Wednesday, 2/1 - Out of uniform and hat day. We will be seeing an assembly in the morning. We will not be going to Mass.


Thursday, 2/2 - Red, White, and Blue day with a $1 donation to benefit Fisher House, which is an organization supporting military and veteran families.  We will also be going to the Pickwick Theater to see Puss in Boots. The permission slip is coming home today and due by Friday, Jan. 27th.


Friday, 2/3  - 2nd grade will come to school out of uniform wearing green.

Tuesday's Homework

Reading - Reread Backpack Page 66 aloud several times. Backpack Page 65 went home on Friday to start studying for the test this Friday. 


Math - Flashcards and study the review pages going home this week. The Topic 4 test (Fluently Add Within 100) will be on Friday.  Timed-Tests will be starting this week. We will be completing the iReady Winter Diagnostic this week.  Please do not go on iReady at home.


Room 32 is testing tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast!


Religion - Study for the Chapter 7 test tomorrow. Take the pretest at blestsarewe.com. You will be asked to write out the definitions of venial sin and mortal sin. Memorize the green faith words box and practice writing out the definitions.  You will also be asked how you can obey one of the Ten Commandments.


We will be starting our Reconciliation books this week in addition to our regular Religion book.

Spelling - Backpack Page 64 and study for tomorrow’s test. Backpack Page 65 will be coming home tomorrow to start studying since there is no school on Monday.
