Bargiel 4th Grade Weekly News 10/02-10/06

Week of 10/02-10/06

4th English/Vocabulary: This week we will continue to work on the writing process to create a cohesive paragraph. Students used graphic organizers to brainstorm "Our Favorite Thing." We discussed main ideas and supporting details to help elaborate on the topic at hand, and are in the process of writing our rough drafts using a graphic organizer to help organize our thoughts. I will meet with students individually to conference with them, and students will have the opportunity to peer-edit and self-edit their work as part of the proofreading and editing stages of the writing process. By the end of the week, we will share our final drafts with the class and display our work in the hallway.

We are working on Unit 3 of our Vocabulary Workshop. Workbook pages for this unit will be due on Wednesday, October 4th. The synonym/antonym worksheet will go home on Tuesday and will be due Friday, October 6th. We will work on this in class, but students will be responsible for any work not completed in class.

4th Reading: This week we will finish up reading the selections "Experts, Inc." and "Stop Bullying." We will focus on comprehension questions, the author's perspective, idioms, and vocabulary associated with the selection. The test for the selection will be on Friday, October 6th. The review for the test will go home on Tuesday. See Google Classroom for the review/answers to help prepare for the test. Don't forget to continue working on iReady at home. Students are expected to spend at least 45 minutes working on the assessment(s) and pass at least one. Every extra assessment passed will earn the student a punch on their punch card. Students who have ten punches will receive a spirit wear day pass.

4th Math: We are beginning Unit 2 in our math book this week. This unit focuses on addition and subtraction of whole numbers using the standard algorithm and rounding and estimation to check for reasonable answers. Students will review regrouping as well as their math facts. Please practice your math facts daily. Don't forget to continue working on iReady at home. Students are expected to spend at least 45 minutes working on the assessment(s) and pass at least one. Every extra assessment passed will earn the student a punch on their punch card. Students who have ten punches will receive a spirit wear day pass.
